We are a small family based project with the humble mission of fostering the development of an economically viable and environmentally sustainable fine flavor cacao industry in Puerto Rico.
We are also establishing trusting connections between farmers interested in learning and starting their own plantations and help them in the process of producing world class fine aroma cacao in order for us to make unique and award winning chocolate for the world to enjoy.
Cacao farming in Puerto Rico was a main crop in the XVII century together with ginger. It was abandoned at a later date after the island suffered the impact of a devastating storm. The industry never got back on it’s feet. It was soon replaced by coffee and sugar cane plantations.
Together with other efforts, we are helping to bring back to life the cacao industry, dormant for centuries, find those forgotten trees, descendants of the ones that were originally planted and together with improved clones, better technology, education and technical resources, make sure this time, the resurgence will be a productive and meaningful one for farmers and contribute to Puerto Rico’s agriculture for years to come.
